8 Career Paths Your Child Can Take With The Right Digital Skills

Growing up, your child will develop a whole range of skills to prepare them for future employment. But many of those skills will pale in comparison to computing skills and the career paths they can take with the right digital education.

To put it simply, digital skills are crucial. Many, if not all future jobs will require extensive knowledge of technology and computer systems, however the percentage of those choosing computing subjects at GCSE level has depleted over recent years.

We hope to change that by educating children on the different jobs they can do with the right digital skills. Here are just eight of many:

Software Developer

Software Developers are responsible for creating all the advanced applications for the tech we use. Since its inception, technology has continued to advance at an astounding rate. A software developer is responsible for keeping with the times and constantly upgrading and improving their software to meet the demands of users. We can guarantee that working to become a software developer will lead to a long and fruitful career!

At Jam Coding, a lot of our workshops focus on teaching pupils how to create various software using code. This early introduction to software development not only helps young people understand how digital skills can be applied to ‘grown up’ jobs but also inspires them to pursue a career in digital.

Cyber Security

Those involved with Cyber Security are kept busy analysing cyber threats, engaging in ethical hacking and investigating security alerts – all to keep the digital world and its citizens safe from cybercrime. Working in cyber security, your child can be a real-life Digital Superhero!

eSafety and Digital Citizenship are important to us at Jam Coding. We don’t just teach digital skills, but also how to use those skills effectively and responsibly.

Games Developer

Ask your child how they’d feel getting to make their own video game for the world to play…and making a living out of it! That’s what those who find themselves in the video game industry do. From designing characters and worlds to programming everything they do, there’s no limit to how expressive your child can be as a Games Developer.

Our Game Building and Game Design workshops do just that, and within the first session, our young people learn that building and designing games is just as fun as playing them!

Digital Marketing

Digital Marketing is a fun, creative and exciting role. It’s a flexible job and there’s always work to do. Every business needs digital marketing to promote their products and services. As a marketeer you’ll get to design advertisements and other online promotions, write press releases and blogs (just like this one!) and develop strategies to reach the right audiences with your message.

Web Designer

It’s a common myth that coding and computing subjects aren’t creative. We’re here to debunk that theory. Coding and computing can absolutely be creative! In fact, as a web designer, creativity is one of the most important skills your child can have, along with imagination, patience, attention to detail and the technical ability to create something that will last forever – a website!

Our Web and App Design workshops are especially great for teaching children how to design a concept then bring it to life with code.

AI and Robotics Development

Those in the Robotics industry have some of the coolest jobs going! From building and programming new robots to perform different functions that humans couldn’t otherwise perform, to creating super-intelligent AI, robots are becoming more and more intertwined with our lives.

A number of our workshops introduce young people to the art of robotics. They enjoy coding their own robots to zip around the classroom using algorithms, voice control and everything in between.
